Author Survey

1. Are you new to beta reading?
Not entirely! I have decent experience working with other people and giving helpful critique as well. I have been doing it for the past 3 years and I really enjoy it! I just need help finding one or two more people to help me make my story solid and presentable to be published someday. There will be 3 books in this series I am writing but for now, I just want help with the first book. I have a good friend of mine reading over my story currently, but I know she is quite busy lately. My story is not posted publicly, it will need to be read privately.

I am 23 years old.


3. Genre(s) – Please be specific to pieces you want beta read:
My novel is a mix between Suspense, Horror, Romance, and even a bit of Mystery. It is a modern Werewolf story, but it's definitely not your typically monster love story. I have gone through great lengths to create something original that isn't based on cliche's or something that has been done a million times before. The monsters are scary, the love scenes are present but not overwhelming, and I really want to focus on the action and introduce a new lore. I want to make it seem like it could really be possible for werewolves could exist in real life!


4. Rating: G, PG, PG-13, R, or MA?
To be honest, I'm not quite sure yet. It's probably will be in the realms between PG-13 and R. I struggle with sexual scenes so I'm not sure I will be adding anything too graphic. There will be violent scenes and lots of gore.


5. Warnings: Sex, violence, politics, religion, and other hot button issues.
Like I said before, I struggle with sex scenes! I'm not against them so there is a chance that a few might pop up farther down the line but it's not looking like it's going to happen in the first book. Though I'm not intending it to be this way, it appears to me that my book is sexiest towards males. I hope to figure out a way around this since it is not my intention. I love men but they make such awesome bad guys most of the time! Maybe I might be over thinking it... that's why I need you. May also touch briefly on religion but it's not something that would offend people. Gore and violence will be present. I use cuss words in my dialog when needed.  


6. What's your writing skill level?
A little bit higher than intermediate. I have been writing as a hobby since I was 12 years old but I have improved a lot since then. I have taken several college courses on writing and received A's in all of them.


7. How serious are you about your writing?
I was writing just as a hobby but now I am at a point were I would really like to get this story published. It's different and edgy, and I really want to bring it out into the world! I am very dedicated!


8. What writing aspects are you trying to improve?
I am looking for a bit of everything but I don't think Grammar will be too big of an issue. Of course, there are mistakes I always miss so it would be helpful if you point them out. I am looking for a Beta who is good at picking out loop-holes, plot flow, and pick up on weird sentence structures, or sentences that don't sound right. We speak with an odd mannerisms where I'm from and sometimes I feel like it might show in my writing. I'm also looking for critique of my characters and dialog if possible. I'm curious how others might view my characters and the overall plot. I want to bring werewolves on the map again, and give werewolf fans something to look forward to!


9. What are you looking for in the beta reader?
I would love to have someone who will be my partner and friend. I need someone to help me get through writing my novel. I'm taking this very seriously and I would love to find a person who is willing be dedicated and help me move forward. I want someone who is honest! If you thinking something is kinda dumb or if there are things about my story that don't add up, tell me! I can handle all levels of criticism because I understand you are trying to help. (Smile) I would also ask that you be timely about the edits.


10. Do you promise to put sincere effort into your partnership?
Absolutely! I wouldn't be typing all this is I wasn't dedicated!
